Eat Francesinha like a local
How many cities have a dish as famous or infamous as the Francesinha?
A staple of local cuisine, the Francesinha – frenchie in portuguese – is a crazy, over-the-top steak and pork sandwich, smothered in cheese à la croque monsieur, with a slightly spicy, tomato-y, beer-y sauce poured on top.
It’s always served in a huge portion, so make sure you eat it at lunch, so you have time to go for a long walk to get rid of the crazy amount of calories you’ve just ingested.
We recommend trying it at Cufra, an old-school institution, at Brasão, at O Afonso, a bit crowded since Anthony Bourdain praised it, and at Bufete Fase, where it’s the only dish served.
